What Do They See

Words and Music: Vortemir Fire-tender
A.S. XXXI (May 14, 1997)

Many fair maidens are asking to dance with me
I know not how and so I tell them no
I hang my head for this knowledge does run from me
I am a soldier, and that all I know

Place me in battle, and I will weigh heavily
Enemies falling for King and for me
But here in Court I am out of my element
I do not dance, and so that's all they see

I've a fine wit, I can tell a tale earnestly
I sing quite well in the fireside glow
I can trade jests with the best or the worst of them
I am a reveler, this much I know

Place me in battle, and I will weigh heavily
Enemies falling for King and for me
But here in Court I am out of my element
I do not dance, and so that's all they see

Lost deep in misery, one thought occurred to me
Why have I let this thing worry me so
I've a fine life, with diversions surrounding me
Come with me lassies, I'll teach what I know

Place me in battle, and I will weigh heavily
Enemies falling for King and for me
Standing in Court, they are out of my element
Let them look on, I care not what they see
